When you volunteer or shop at MCC Thrift, you are helping communities around the world have access to safe water.
Having a safe place to go to the washroom is an important part of ensuring that a community has access to clean water. It's also important in keeping girls' attendance rates at school high. In Uganda, MCC supports latrines and a girls' changing area at St. Johns school in Nyakabingo Village in Kasese. The changing room for girls also has space for washing and drying reusable pads. This project has proven remarkably effective at increasing enrollment at schools and at reducing absenteeism, sickness, and drop-outs. The project works with three schools in Kasese district of Uganda each year, constructing school rainwater catchment systems (gutters and small 2,000-5,000 litre tanks), handwashing stations and latrines.
