What is MCC doing?
MCC has worked in Ukraine since our beginnings in 1920, opening soup kitchens to provide relief to thousands of starving families. Our current projects include relief, peace, health, and education. Since the beginning of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, MCC has worked with partners to assist internally displaced people (IDPs) and to build peace. The UNHCR reports there are some 1.8 million IDPs and conflict-affected people in Ukraine. What can you do? Pray! Loving God, may the peace set loose among us by Jesus, your Son, take root again in Ukraine and truly prevail. We pray in the name and Spirit of Jesus, giver of the peace that passes all understanding. Amen. Give! Your donations to MCC will support food assistance and peacebuilding in Ukraine among low-income families and IDPs. Advocate! Send messages to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of International Development calling for peacebuilding efforts alongside development and humanitarian work. Glad Times / Sad times – MCC Thrift Grantham is Thriving, but MCC Thrift Hazelglen Closing2/16/2022 With sadness, the Mennonite Central Committee announces the closure of the MCC Thrift Shop at 101 Hazelglen Drive in Kitchener. This shop's last day open to the public was Friday, February 18.
MCC signed the lease for this shop in December 2019, and the shop scheduled to open in May of 2020. Due to the global pandemic, construction paused in March of 2020. MCC Thrift on Hazelglen finally opened in November 2020. Since then it has experienced public health-related closures and has not had the opportunity to build a solid customer base despite the team at MCC Thrift Hazelglen's strong efforts. MCC Ontario’s six other thrift shops (St. Catharines, Leamington, New Hamburg, Stouffville, Elmira, Kitchener) continue to show strong results. Their long history and strong customer foundations have allowed them to flourish despite multiple closures. Please be in prayer for our colleagues and volunteers at MCC Thrift Hazelglen as we travel this path. Thank you. MCC - Relief, development, and peace in the name of Christ https://mcccanada.ca/stories/mcc-thrift-hazelglen-closing Your gift changes lives around the world! A gift to where needed most supports the breadth of MCC’s work – meeting urgent needs and building stronger, healthier and more peaceful communities. Share the joy of new opportunities with farmers like Noromaud Yosangueme in Chad, who received agricultural training through MCC and materials for constructing a chicken coop. Thank you for partnering with us to share God’s love and compassion for all.
MCC - Relief, development, and peace in the name of Christ https://donate.mcccanada.ca/cause/where-needed-most-0 People affected by disaster or conflict must often leave without warning—and without necessary supplies like warm blankets. Take the sting out of winter’s chill by providing a comforter to someone in need. It takes about $54 of fabric and supplies for volunteers to make each comforter—your gift will help cover this cost. When you donate a comforter in February, you can send a valentine to someone you love to let them know you made a gift in their honour.
