Through your generosity, MCC and its local partner, AEID, have successfully drilled four of their 15 planned wells to bring clean, potable water to the surface for families in Makiya, Ethiopia.
For families, access to clean water is the most serious challenge the community faces in northern Ethiopia. Read the full story at https://mcc.org/our-stories/water-impact-report-winter-2024

A Moment for MCC: March 15 marked 13 years of conflict in Syria.

Ongoing conflict has left over 90% of Syria’s population living below the poverty line. One in three people face food insecurity. MCC partners are providing food and other immediate relief, and working with the Syrian people to build a peaceful future.
We ask you to join us as we continue praying and working for peace in Syria.

"Our well is a blessing,” says Molita Nacuduzi, a participant in an MCC supported clean drinking water project in Chitongo, Mozambique.
With this new well, the women and children of the community no longer have to make treks to the Zambezi river to collect water. The task was often dangerous as many people, mostly children, lost their lives to crocodiles in the river while collecting water. The water was also dirty and many people got sick.
“It is good for us all, [especially] for us girls who used to make that long and dangerous walk each day,” shares Molita.
This well now provides clean water to over 300 families in the community.
Thank you for making a difference.

Myanmar – Easter 2024 Campaign

3/8/2024

The civil war in Myanmar isn’t making the news anymore. But it should be. The military has overthrown the first democratic government in decades. Homes, fields, and villages are burning. Children and families have fled to the jungles. And humanitarian relief workers are being thrown in prison. And as people of faith, we don’t want anyone to feel forsaken.

This Easter, we can reach out to families caught in conflict and let them know they haven’t been forgotten. You can support MCC by your offering. If by cash or cheque, designate the envelope/memo line “MCC Myanmar”. By e-transfer, enter “MCC Myanmar” in the message box.

South Sudan – A forgotten people…

2/29/2024

Since 2013, violence has displaced nearly 4 million people. Many live on the edge of famine; ongoing internal conflict and severe floods make them even more vulnerable.
MCC partners provide food, livelihood and vocational training, trauma and health support, education and peacebuilding.

There are a variety of ways to give. You can give online. https://mcc.org/what-we-do/initiatives/disaster-response/south-sudan You can give by your offering. If by cash, designate the envelope “MCC Sudan.” If by cheque, make the cheque payable to the church and designate “MCC Sudan” on the memo line/envelope. By e-transfer, put “MCC Sudan” in the message box. Any questions? Our treasurer Lorraine would love to help.

By the way, it’s not raw, and there are many kinds – eight at my last count. The top seller is their Flying Noodle (chunky chicken noodle.) Normally you can buy this soup at the MCC Thrift Store on Grantham. But while the store is being renovated – reopening in April – you can purchase Raw Carrot Soup at the Niagara MCC Office at 505 Carlton St. Their hours are 9 to 4 on Monday to Thursday. Always call ahead - (905) 646-3161.

Healing when trauma builds up

2/16/2024

“It became a healing balm for me, and I felt relieved,” Wanla Napo, the man whose six children were abducted, says. “I used to think so much about what happened, but after the workshop I learned to forge ahead, asking for his grace. Each morning, I pray that God will bring peace and security to our people.”
The need for trauma healing workshops increases as people in northeastern Nigeria are attacked and displaced again and again.

The Mennonite Central Committee is a Member Organization of the Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability

2/7/2024

You may have heard on the news that since, in 2013 when the Rana Plaza garment factories collapsed in Bangladesh – killing 1,100 people and injuring 2,500 others – there has been really no improvement in wages, rights, or working conditions. Thankfully there are non-profits in Canada working hard to rectify this situation including the Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability. The Mennonite Central Committee is a Member Organization of this group.

One volunteer, two organizations, many needs met.

That’s the short version of Jeff Koller’s story about a trip he took from North Newton, Kansas, to Texas.
In November, Mennonite Central Committee - MCC (Central States region) put out the call for a volunteer to haul 750 health kits to Brownsville, Texas, to help meet the needs of migrants.
Jeff Koller, who recently retired as Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) Region 3 Operations Coordinator, wanted to meet that need.
“I’ve been there a lot and I’m familiar,” he said.
