Pushpa is part of the Prabha self-help group in her village in India. She learned how to grow mushrooms from a training with MCC partner DISHA, and then DISHA supported her with six mushroom spawns. Currently, Pushpa eats the mushrooms she grows and sells some in her local market. But she is hoping to expand so that she can earn enough income for a livelihood.
MCC funds this project through its account at Canadian Foodgrains Bank to improve food and nutrition security in Indigenous communities.

Mennonite Central Committee’s shipment of comforters, hygiene supplies and infant care items is finally on its way to Gaza, after waiting out many delays and surmounting obstacles.
The shipment, which left the MCC East Coast Material Resources Center (MRC) in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, on July 23, has been in the planning stages for several months. It is one of the ways MCC is addressing urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza.
The shipment still has a long journey ahead, as it will take several months to arrive in Jordan and then more time until it arrives in Gaza, probably in the winter according to Seth Malone, MCC representative for Jordan, Palestine and Israel.
He says he prays that the comforters will bring warmth to families living in tents and bombed out buildings, that parents will have basic clothing for their babies and that hygiene and relief kits will provide some measure of support for families who have lost everything.

In Syria, ongoing conflict and the destructive 2023 earthquakes have presented devastating hardships, dismantling the lives that people have worked so hard to build for themselves and their loved ones.
Amid war, disaster and economic uncertainty, many families’ breadwinners have found themselves without work, or working with outdated equipment that has become too costly to replace.
Christian Hope Center staff took note of these workers’ steadfast determination in times of uncertainty and saw an opportunity to walk alongside them. And so, the MCC partner established Micro-Projects. This livelihoods program provides families with the equipment needed to start or revitalize businesses.

MCC urgently needs soap donations for countries where soap is scarce. Both bath soap (85 g or larger, in wrapper) and laundry soap(Fels Naptha, Sunlight, or Zote) are needed. MCC Ontario programs have been quite busy recently! With everything from relief-kit packing to refugee sponsorship paperwork to providing workshops and advocacy, staff and volunteers have been active in local communities working for peace and justice.
