A pig story - Experience the difference that the gift of one pig can be.

Once upon a real time, in a small village in rural Uganda, a pig came to live on the farm of Mary Ilero and her husband, Julius Egadu. Mary, who was the pig’s primary caregiver, named her Friend. Mary and husband Julius needed a friend. The didn’t have enough money to feed and educate their three children. Julius worked in construction, but there wasn’t enough work. They hoped Friend would help them, but they had no idea how much.

Friend gave birth to nine piglets in 2017. Mary knew how to keep Friend and her piglets healthy because trainers from MCC partner Action for Peace and Development (APED) taught her and Julius how to feed them and medicate them before APED gave them the pig. Mary sold each of the piglets for about $21, using the proceeds to buy a cow that she named Patience. Patience had a calf in 2018 and began producing milk that Mary’s children can drink and that Mary can use to make yogurt, cheese, and butter. She kept the calf so that it, too, could eventually produce, but she could sell it for about $160 as a yearling and about $266 as an adult if needed.

Rockets, rosebushes and relief: MCC supplies arrive for thousands of displaced Ukrainians

Before the fighting escalated in Ukraine this year, Nadiya O.* and her husband lived near the city of Uman, Ukraine. Together they grew a vegetable garden and kept bees, selling their honey to make some extra cash. But shortly after the conflict worsened, her husband died from a heart attack.

Then Russian military bombing destroyed their home, burning most of the beehives they had tended together to ash. The ones that remain still stand, empty and quiet. An unexploded rocket lies buried in what used to be their garden, among the rosebushes. In Ukrainian, the name Nadiya means hope, but her situation left little to be hopeful for.

But a measure of hope found its way to Nadiya O. when a container full of MCC canned meat, comforters and other relief items was distributed through MCC partner Uman Help Centre. The container that arrived in Uman was one of five shipped to Ukraine by MCC, each loaded with essential relief items including relief kits, hygiene kits, infant care kits, comforters and canned meat.

You can share God’s love with children in Syria. Fleeing home in the midst of war means taking what you can, not everything you need. In Syria, warm clothing, shoes, thermal blankets and heaters help displaced families, especially during the winter season.
$25 provides winter clothing for one child
$25 provides an electric space heater $52 provides two thermal blankets for one family
Thank you for providing warmth and comfort to families in need.
