Adult Sunday School
... NOT JUST FOR EGGHEADS...
Have you ever asked yourself, “Why is there so much violence in the Bible?” or “Why does God seem to answer some prayers but not others?” We make room for questions like these in the adult Sunday School class. We start by looking for clues in each week’s sermon. We read a book that has wisdom and insight to share. Right now we are starting to read The Bible Unwrapped: Making Sense Of Scripture Today. The author, Meghan Good, uses fresh language and vivid examples to make the big themes of the Bible accessible to us. We join her in retrieving ancient stories so they are relevant to life today.
Our congregation does not have any other setting where we sit down together, week after week, to apply the Bible to the world we live in. This is your opportunity to help fill in a gap in our congregational life.
Finally, this group is not just for eggheads but for everyone who wants to grow in the Christian life. Join us on Sunday after church—or should I say, as an extension of church.

Grace Study Group participates in the Anabaptist Bible Project
In celebration of the 500th anniversary of Anabaptism in 2025, Menno Media has undertaken the Anabaptist Bible Project. The goal is to produce the first Anabaptist-focused study Bible. 500 congregations or faith communities in North America and around the world, including Grace, have registered a study group of about 6 members. Our group met 5 times from January to March 2023 to develop marginal commentary on 3 passages of scripture we were sent by the project directors: one from the Old Testament, one from Psalms/Proverbs, and one from the New Testament.
We found that the Project provided a new and intriguing lens through which to focus on Bible passages. Generally we followed the 5-question prompt for each passage, person by person, until we had a sense of coverage. We were amazed at how our passages unfolded varied layers of meaning as we probed and pondered. We found ourselves in cruxes that revealed differences in our individual faiths, differences in perspective and approach that required charity, but which also incited curiosity. We also found ourselves increasingly intrigued by the way different translations inflected our experience of scripture, and thus our faith. We greatly appreciate the opportunity to participate in the Project.
